2020 Annual Conference Cancellation

Our 2020 Annual Conference is Cancelled

After careful consideration, MASBO’s Board of Directors has decided to cancel the 2020 Annual Conference and Trade Show.

Even though our conference dates are still eight weeks away, with the rapidly evolving COVID-19 outbreak, the uncertainties of what lies ahead, the limitations imposed by the Mayo Civic Center and the increasing travel bans by many associate member companies, we have concluded that it is neither safe nor practical to move forward with the Conference. The Cash Management Certification Course, originally scheduled to be held in Rochester, will now be held as a webinar.

At this time there are no plans to reschedule the conference. Instead, we are looking at ways to provide some of the Annual Conference sessions as on-demand webinars, and will also be considering ways to include components of the Annual Conference into our other conference events. Stay tuned for those details in the coming weeks.

We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has assisted in conference planning, agreed to present a Gold Mine or Breakout session, or registered to attend or exhibit. On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, I cannot thank you enough for your ongoing and inspiring dedication to this great organization. We will weather this storm and come back even stronger, and I look forward to the time when we can once again gather together.

Sincerely,
Robyn Vosberg-Torgerson
MASBO President

Conference Cancellation FAQ

Why is the 2020 Annual Conference cancelled?

After closely monitoring updates and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), Minnesota state government, and following travel advisories and restrictions, the MASBO Board of Directors have decided to cancel the 2020 Annual Conference. This is particularly important given that our members are located in schools throughout the state, and the risk of spreading the coronavirus to our schools and communities. The health and well-being of our members, schools, and communities is paramount, and the risks associated with holding the event at this time are too significant to ignore.

Are all additional events associated with the 2020 Annual Conference cancelled as well?

All additional events (with the exception of the Cash Management Certification Course, which will now be held as a webinar) including networking events, exhibit hall, pre-conference sessions, and committee meetings are also cancelled.  At the Annual Conference we hold our Annual Member Meeting to elect new Board members, and this will now be done as a virtual meeting.  For other traditions such as recognizing our award recipients, member anniversaries and retirees, we will be looking at ways to include these in other conferences.

Will the 2020 Annual Conference be postponed until a later date or rescheduled?

We’re exploring options to provide you with some of the educational content scheduled for the convention, in lieu of the live presentations. Stay tuned for those details in the coming weeks.  We will also be looking into adding other Annual Conference components into future conferences.  The next Annual Conference will be held May 12-14, 2021, in Duluth.

Will registrations for attendees, exhibitors and sponsors be refunded?

Yes. MASBO will provide full refunds for all registrations. If you paid online with a credit card, you will receive a credit back to the same card. If you registered and have an open invoice, it will be written off. We anticipate all refunds being processed by the end of the month by our office, but credit may not appear on your bank statement for a few additional days. If you paid by check, MASBO will issue a check back in the amount of your registration. Please allow time for checks to be processed and mailed. We appreciate your patience as we process these refunds.

What about the Certification Course?

The Cash Management & Investing Certification Course will be offered as a webinar, scheduled for the same time.

When is the next Annual Conference? Will it be held in Rochester?

The 2021 Annual Conference will be held on May 12-14 in Duluth, and the 2022 Annual Conference will be held in Rochester on May 4-6.

I was scheduled to present a gold mine session or breakout session at the conference. Will I now be providing this electronically?

While our intention is to offer some of these sessions as virtual sessions this spring, it is not feasible to provide this for all of them. Our Professional Development Committee is working to identify the sessions that are most timely, and provide content that applies to the work of our members, to be used for our virtual sessions. The committee may also utilize the presentations that are less time-sensitive for the Fall Conference. We all need to be cognizant of the incredible pressure that is on our MASBO members right now, and that we need to be very thoughtful and selective in how we are supporting them. All confirmed presenters will receive email notification regarding the cancellation of the conference and ask that they wait to hear back from the committee members regarding any next steps.

What should I do if I have questions?

Please contact MASBO at 651-290-7485, or at office@mnasbo.org. Connie Nordquist, MASBO Executive Director, can be contacted at cnordquist@mnasbo.org.
