2019 Legislative Visits

MASBO members will have the opportunity to join members from the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA) in their visits to the state Capitol. MASA has nine different regions across the state, and each region organizes their own day at the Capitol. Up to two MASBO members will be able to join each of the MASA regional groups. Each regional group has a leader who will coordinate the schedule, travel plans and all of the other details. Because all of the participants are from the same area of the state and share the same representatives, there will be group meetings planned with legislators. This is a great opportunity to join up with your superintendent or a business manager from a neighboring district to meet with your legislators and make your voice heard.

MASBO members interested in participating must sign up in advance, using the link below. Your name will then be forwarded on to the MASA regional leader, who will communicate all of the details directly with you.

How to Sign Up:

  1. Find the region where you are located (on the map below), and their visit dates.
  2. Complete the registration form. We will forward your information to the MASA regional leader, who will contact you with additional details.
  3. There is a maximum of two MASBO members that can attend from each region.  Registrations will be first come-first served, but a waiting list will be kept in case of cancellations.  The Visit Schedule (below) will periodically be updated with registered MASBO members so you can see who else is participating.
  4. Your name will then be forwarded to the MASA Regional Leader, who will provide you with specific plans and details. Please note that for some Regions, overnight travel may be necessary.
  5. If you need to cancel, or have questions, please contact Connie Nordquist.

Impact of Removing Licensing Fees from Capital Spending

Because of concern about removing licensing fees from capital spending, MASBO distributed a survey to members in April 2013.

Survey Results

Local Impact on Safe & Supportive Schools Act

MASBO members provided data to MMB to help develop a local impact note on the Safe & Supportive Schools Act.

Local Impact Note

Proposed Mandatory State Healthcare for School Districts

Legislation has been introduced for a mandatory, statewide health insurance pool for school, bill SF 446 and HF 573. MASBO’s Legislative Committee has carefully reviewed the legislation, and has developed a position paper outlining some of the problems and issues pertaining to the bill. MASBO’s position is in opposition to a mandatory health insurance pool for school employees.

If you have not already done so, please familiarize yourself with the legislation, along with the position paper, and contact your legislators about how a mandatory health insurance pool will impact your district.
