The Minnesota Association of School Business Officials (MASBO) was founded in 1950. The membership consists of over 600 school district personnel representing Minnesota school districts who serve in areas of business administration, superintendancy, accounting, buildings and grounds, transportation, food service, personnel/payroll/benefits, and purchasing.

MASBO is an affiliate of the Association of School Business Officials, International. ASBO is an educational association that supports school business professionals who are passionate about quality education. ASBO is committed to providing programs and services that promote the highest standards of school business management, professional growth, and the effective use of educational resources. Through its programs, services, advocacy, and global network, ASBO is the voice of school business officials on an international level.

Strategic Planning

The MASBO Executive Board utilizes a strategic planning process to guide the course of the Association. This process relies on input from committees and the membership to help insure that MASBO remains a vibrant, relevant association that meets the needs of its members.

Code of Ethics

Members acknowledge that the schools belong to the public they serve for the purpose of providing educational opportunities to all. In providing these opportunities, members must maintain standards of exemplary professional conduct.

MASBO members are committed to these standards of professional conduct:

  • Make the well-being of students central to all decisions
  • Pursue good stewardship of the district’s resources, make full disclosure of relevant information and avoid using the position for personal gain
  • Exhibit commitment and loyalty to the governing board by implementing and support their policies, rules and directives
  • Follow the principle of due process and protect the civil and human rights of all individuals
  • Maintain professional competence
  • Fulfill all professional responsibilities with honesty and integrity

Communications Guidelines

  • Know and follow MASBO’s Code of Ethics
  • MASBO members are personally responsible for the content they publish on-line, whether in a blog, social computing site or any other form of user-generated media as a representative of MASBO, implied or otherwise. Be mindful that what you publish will be public for a long time—protect your privacy and take care to understand a site’s terms of service.
  • Identify yourself—name and, when relevant, role with MASBO—when you discuss MASBO or MASBO-related matters, such as MASBO platforms or services. You must make it clear that you are speaking for yourself and not on behalf of MASBO.
  • If you publish content online relevant to MASBO in your personal capacity use a disclaimer such as this: “The postings on this site are my own and Don’t necessarily represent MASBO’s positions, strategies or opinions.”
  • Respect copyright, fair use, and financial disclosure laws.
  • Don’t provide MASBO’s or another's confidential or other proprietary information and never discuss MASBO’s association status or other sensitive matters publicly.
  • Don’t cite or reference staff members, students, community members, MASBO members, partners or suppliers without their approval. When you do make a reference, link back to the source. Don’t publish anything that might allow inferences to be drawn which could embarrass or damage a member or the association.
  • Respect your audience. Don’t use ethnic slurs, personal insults, obscenity, or engage in any conduct that would not be acceptable in MASBO’s Code of Ethics. You should also show proper consideration for others’ privacy and for topics that may be considered objectionable or inflammatory—such as politics and religion.
  • Be aware of your association with MASBO in online social networks. If you identify yourself as a MASBO member, ensure your profile and related content is consistent with how you wish to present yourself with colleagues and members.
  • Don’t pick fights, be the first to correct your own mistakes.
  • Try to add value. Provide worthwhile information and perspective. MASBO is best represented by its members and what you publish may reflect on MASBO’s reputation.
  • Don’t use MASBO logos or trademarks unless approved to do so.
