The Outstanding Lifetime Contribution Award recognizes and celebrates the overall contributions of Minnesota school business officials to their districts or organizations, their communities, and the profession. This award is intended to honor the cumulative accomplishments and contributions of MASBO members, as a capstone to a career in school business.

IMPORTANT: All nominations must be submitted by completing the online nomination application form (below) and attaching the required documents. Complete instructions and requirements follow, and are also available on a pdf (link above), for your convenience. Please review all of the requirements, and prepare the supporting documentation prior to completing the online application form. Once the online nomination form is started, it must be completed soon thereafter; you do not have the ability to save an uncompleted form.

ELIGIBILITY

  • The applicant must be a MASBO Active member, employed full-time by a Minnesota school district. Members serving on the MASBO Board of Directors are not eligible.
  • Nominees may be School Business Managers or Specialists (in areas such as Purchasing, Payroll, Accounting, etc.).
  • Nominees cannot be nominated for more than two consecutive years, but can be nominated again following a one-year break.
  • An individual can only receive the award one time.
  • Only one person from each school entity is eligible to be nominated for the award each year.

SELECTION PROCESS

All applications will be reviewed and scored by a selection committee. Nominations will be considered based on the award criteria. Please closely adhere to the application checklist and nomination requirements, and submit all required information. Please do not submit any extra materials, as they will not be shown to the selection panel. The award recipient will be selected by late April, and all nominators will be contacted with the results of their nomination by May 1.

NOMINATION PROCESS

All nominations must be submitted online using the Outstanding Lifetime Contribution Nomination Form (see below). Mail-in nominations will not be accepted.

The on-line nomination form requires the following information:

  1. Achievement Summary: The summary should be organized to include the following three sections, with headlines for each. The summary should be less than 1000 words, and no supporting document outside of the achievement summary will be accepted. Achievement summary must include:

    • Description of specific achievement(s) and/or contribution(s) that the candidate has been instrumental in making at the district or professional level.
    • Statement of how the achievement(s) and/or contribution(s) have impacted the school district.
    • Statement of how the candidate’s contributions have impacted school business management at the local, state, national and/or international level.

  2. Professional Résumé: Includes, when applicable:

    • Career Path
    • Professional credentials (including degrees)
    • Involvement in professional associations
    • Demonstration of continuing education coursework
    • Involvement with MASBO or ASBO International, including volunteer contributions and professional development
    • Involvement or contributions to other educational organizations or associations (MDE, MREA, AMSD, etc.)
    • Presentations made within or outside the context of the candidate’s employment

  3. One Page Letter of Reference: This document should address the candidate’s character and professional ability. It should either be from the Superintendent, or from the nominee’s direct supervisor. If it is written by the direct supervisor, a brief letter of acknowledgement of the nomination by the Superintendent must also be included.
